It’s been a few weeks since I last posted about my adventure using FreeCAD to design a NAS enclosure, so this is Part 2 of the series.

For anyone who hasn’t read the first post, here’s the three-bullet summary:

I love to tinker with things — mostly computers. As anyone who tinkers knows, sometimes you break things… and sometimes you break things badly and lose data. Very important data, like your wedding photos.

Yes, you read that correctly: I lost all my wedding photos.

As mentioned in STM32F0xx DigitalIO / AnalogIn PCB, one of the main motivations behind this project was to learn more Rust.

If Rust turns out to be genuinely useful in an embedded setting, I definitely won’t be subjecting myself to C again anytime soon. Just kidding — I like you, C… …nah, not really. 😄

I decided to try my hand at developing a distributed I/O system based on the STM32F0xx MCU.

The goal was to create a small, flexible board that could be used in a variety of automation or control scenarios, while keeping the cost low and the design relatively simple.

Decided trying my hand at creating a modular industrial backplane, the idea here is creating a pluggable system with a variety of different modules. The modules in this case could be different MCU modules with options for say faster or slower MCU’s or different logic levels for Input/Outputs.
